Advance IT Minnesota/MnSCU provides free Information Technology (IT) curriculum for middle and high school students, as well as associated teacher training.  The curriculum covers skills related to basic productivity applications, (through a prerequisite productivity skills module) then introduces students to concepts and skills associated with systems administration, software development, security, and analytics.

The curriculum aligns with IC³ industry recognized credentials and MnSCU college credit.  The modules can also be used separately to incorporate into existing class offerings. The 60+hour IT Exploration Course provides the needed curriculum that exposes middle and high school students to the myriad of IT careers, and the range of computer-based skills and competencies employers are seeking.

What's Included

When you receive this course, you will get a Teacher's Manual that will outline all tasks and activities in the course. Also included will be a presentation on business analytics as well as Microsoft Excel files needed for the business analytics module.

Curriculum Layout

IT Exploration contains five modules that will guide students through Office productivity skills, an introduction to system administration, software and application development, an introduction to information security, and business analytics.

Technical Requirements

IT Exploration can be taught out of the box using most basic computer setups. Students will need access to the following to complete the course:

  • High-speed internet access
  • Audio-enabled workstation (required for some activities)
  • Microsoft Office 2010 or later (or an equivalent spreadsheet program)
