Have you noticed STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Academies popping up all over the US in the last few years? Why are they becoming such a big deal? Here is the short answer…The US needs to make changes if we want our children to have jobs and our economy to thrive. Currently, there is a disconnect between the skills that many US employers need an employee to possess and the number of candidates that are actually qualified to fill that need. In fact, there are literally 3 million US STEM jobs that are sitting open right now, because there aren’t enough people with the right qualifications to fill them. I’m sure you would agree that this is a BIG problem.

A solution to this problem begins with education and children. Many STEM Academies help prepare students for the future by pushing them to think critically, ask questions, solve problems and welcome the challenges of exploration and discovery.  STEM Academies offer courses that follow a proven hands-on, real-world problem-solving approach to learning, while also complementing traditional mathematics and science courses. The curriculum used at these institutions is designed to prepare students for post-secondary education and careers in STEM-related fields.

Do your child a favor and research the STEM Academy in your area (if you haven’t already)! Your decision to do so just might give your child the edge on landing a stellar job someday! HOWEVER, and this is a big HOWEVER…all this is not to say that EVERY school shouldn’t or couldn’t provide the same opportunities in STEM for ALL their students. I happen to know where they could get their hands on really affordable, easy to teach, and engaging curriculum….stemfuse.com
